We spent the last week in Michigan (my home state). This adventure included my parents, Jim and Eleanor. They flew up from Arizona to our home in New York. We then all piled into Blue and headed for Young State Park in Boyne City, Michigan to camp with 50 of our relatives and friends. This post will probably appeal only to those related to me and my family! Don’t feel obligated to read it.
Why the title “A Tale of Two Thermostats?” Take two people used to the Arizona warmth and put them in an RV for two weeks with a couple used to the Northern climes. The Arizona half are always cold, the New York half are always warm. Fortunately, the RV has two air conditioners. At night, the back bedroom containing the freezing Arizonians had the heat on. Up front where the New Yorkers were sweating, the air conditioner would be on. Thank goodness for two thermostats to allow us to do that.
The steps into the RV are pretty steep. To help my Mom out, Jim made little half steps that sit to one side. They work well!
The campsites at this state park are not overly large. Blue barely fit on the site when Jim backed it in, and the neighbors are close.
But the beach on Lake Charlevoix more than makes up for it!
It was a relaxing week. But there were some chores to do. Jim bought a polishing kit to clean the plastic headlight lenses on the motor home (they were yellow and crazed). I wish I had done a before and after photo, because the lenses look like new now! The activity required “supervision” from some of the relatives that were camping with us…plus the borrowing of some of their tools! A good time was had by all watching Jim work.
I did find some time to sew. Yes, it can be done in a motor home!
We visited the Farmer’s Market in Boyne City one morning. We had heard the Happy Taco Food Truck was good. They weren’t kidding! Jim went back a few days later for a breakfast taco!
- Corinne and Dad at the Happy Taco food truck
- Happy, yummy tacos!
We had rain one afternoon. That resulted in me teaching a Beginners Android phone/tablets class for senior citizens. In our crowd, you have to have a smart phone to be hip!
The week ended with a big family potluck dinner. Those of you who don’t know my family just earned points for reading this far!
- Dad, Mom, Tom, Ruth, Rita, Wayne, Terri, Pat
- Five of the 16 cousins made it. Tommy, Jamie, Corinne, Michelle, Kim
- Too many kids to count! Offspring of Tommy, Kim, Jami and Michelle
- The kids did a contest that involved whipped cream and bubble gum.
- Uncle Pat got smeared with whipped cream after he pushed one of the kid’s faces into it. He deserved what he got!
We are now headed to Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where my mother’s mother grew up. Mom is on another genealogy quest and we once again get to accompany her. I can’t wait to see what we find!
Hope you are keeping track of all the miles that you are logging!!! Of course you are!!! And — if you would like to add to your family — Austin and I are available for adoption.
Sure…although I would have to reinstall the little steps for Austin to get into the coach! ๐
