We have spend the past two days sprinting across the plains of Canada with the goal of reaching Jasper and the Canadian Rockies by tonight. And we did!
Yesterday, we left Winnipeg in the wee hours of the morning.
The goal was the town of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Leaving Winnipeg, the land was still very flat. But as we progressed West, the land started to have some variation. Look, rolling hills!
We stopped at a Truck Stop to refuel. Diesel up here is around $5 a gallon. Back home, it’s only $3.85. Ouch. Can you spot Blue?
It’s my task at these refueling stops to go inside and pay. At this particular truck stop in Saskatchewan, I spotted this outside the store.
Yes, they are selling tire chains for trucks to use in the snow. This was a first! No, we didn’t buy any. If it starts to snow, we are heading further south. Although that might not always work, Calgary, south of us, got 5 cm of snow the other day. Yikes! We have been watching the weather closely and avoiding anything nasty.
Another sight along the road were these blue huts. We have NO IDEA what they are for. But one area had around 100 of then out in the fields.
Arriving in Saskatoon, we didn’t even unhook the Jeep. We just plugged in the coach to the campground electric and called it a night. The campground was surprisingly full. We watched a steady stream of construction type workers arrive in their vehicles as the sun set. Apparently, there are a lot of temporary laborers in the area and they call the campground home.
We were out of the campground at 6:15 a.m. this morning, unshowered and unfed. That’s the beauty of an RV. I showered this morning at 65 miles per hour! I also cleaned the bathroom and the refridgerator, did some ironing, and put dinner in the crockpot.
The country side in Alberta is very beautiful. The land is rolling more and more. People say Montana is big sky country. I think Alberta could compete for that title.
Once we reach Jasper, we are staying put for a few days. It’s time to enjoy the mountains.
That Showhauler was really “haulin'”. That must be some smooth ride that you can shower, clean, etc. at those speeds.
BA….let’s just say the road was smoother than usual. I still braced myself while doing chores. It’s kind of like being on a moving boat!
