To blatantly steal from The Amazing Race…
“Jim and Corinne…Sixteen U.S. states, five Canadian provinces, 6500 miles, and 50 days…you are the winners of the Amazing Race!”
We are back in New York State making the final push home. We’ll be there by lunch time.
I mapped out our entire route below. Wow…we did cover some ground!
Decatur
We spend the last half of last week visiting Tom and Pam in Decatur, Illinois. These are the wonderful people that we bought the Blue Flame from. In fact, as we were approaching their farm, their grandson spotted us going down the road. He had no idea we were in the area! I think we’ve mentioned this before…we don’t blend in with others!
Tom and Pam were gracious enough to let us “camp” at their farm. We got to show off the bedroom remodel (bunk beds replaced with a queen bed) and discuss some of the finer points of owning Blue. They showed us the horse stables they now own (VERY impressive) Jim spent a whole day with Tom on his electronic marvel of a John Deere Combine harvesting corn. They were out for 10 hours, and harvested over 20,000 bushels and which is over 1.2 million pounds of corn. Pretty impressive!
Chicago
The final stop on our trip was Chicago. Janelle took the train out to join us since it was her Fall Break. it was a chance for some family time. We also have a nephew who moved to Chicago the previous week. There are now two Goekes in Chicago, Callie and Andy! It was a quick visit, but we packed in as much as we could. We visited the Field Museum and got to navigate Chicago while the Chicago Marathon was happening. Remind us to check the calendar of events next time we go…getting around with the Marathon going on was not easy!
And that concludes this series of blog posts. We might take a few weekend trips before we put Blue in storage, but probably nothing blog-worthy. It’s time to start planning the next trips. We are considering Arizona for the early Spring and the Canadian Maritime Provinces for next summer.
As always, if you want to be removed from the mailing list for this blog, just holler! Thanks for reading and sharing in our fun.
Wow!!! What a great experience you have had. Glad that everything went mostly well!!! Welcome home!!
