The 2016 RV Season has begun!

Finally, finally, finally…we are on the road.  Why a month later than we had hoped?  This is why….

Our new house...under construction.

Our new house…under construction.

For those who don’t know, we are moving to Churchville, NY (only 5 miles from our current house).  This newly found RVing lifestyle does not lend itself to keeping up a large house and 5 acres of yard.  Our neighbors and friends have been great at helping out while we are gone.  But as time goes on, Jim enjoys all the outside work less and less.  So we made the decision to build a townhome.  We will own the left hand side of this building.  A homeowner’s association will take care of the exterior of the house, the lawn mowing, and the snow plowing.  That will make life much easier for us.

So, we couldn’t leave until we picked out much of the inside house finishes, Plus we had to do walk-throughs with a bunch of the sub-contractors. Many of those couldn’t be done until the house was framed in.  The final walk-throughs were Friday.  Horray!  We were finally able to leave yesterday (Saturday).  By the way, if you want to see the progress of the house building, visit http://house.cjsquare.com.

We loaded up the Jeep Saturday morning and drove to Springfield, Ohio where the Blue Flame was stored.  We were anxious to see what we would find when we opened the door.

The Blue Flame...just waiting for us.

Things were just as we left them.  Yes!  All the mouse bait we left under the coach was untouched.  There were no signs of critters inside the RV either.  That was our biggest concern.  I’m loving this storage facility.

We plugged the RV into the shore power and our lithium batteries kicked right in.  It was only 40 degrees inside the coach, so we turned on the heat and proceeded to unload the Jeep.  I’m seriously considering having two wardrobes…one for the house and one for the RV.  That’s how much of a pain stowing all the clothing was.

We spent last night in the RV parked in the garage.  It was amazing how easy it was to slip back into our house on wheels.

So, where are we off too?  We considered heading south towards Knoxville.  But I happen to trip over the news article below:

I-75 Road Closure due to a rock slide.

Well, so much for going due south. I-75 is the main North/South highway in this part of the country. We were too tired to come up with Plan B last night.  The decision of where to head would take place in the morning.

A weather alert showed up on my phone in the middle of the night…High Wind Warning.  Yikes!  When your rig is 13′ 4″ tall, you pay attention to news like that.  It had been our intention to take our time and fill the water tanks this morning, but instead we decided to high tail it out of Ohio.

So, we stowed what wasn’t taken care of last night. We dug through our meager supplies for some breakfast (we haven’t hit a grocery store yet).  And we ignored the lack of water in our tanks (bottled water is coming in handy at this point), and got ready to go.

Blue is officially out of storage.

This is why we don’t plan that far ahead. Mother Nature can mess with plans. So to avoid the rock slide and the high winds coming this afternoon, we are making our way towards Memphis, Tennessee. I found a nice RV Park that is right on the Mississippi River with full hookups. Baring any windy surprises, we hope to spend the next couple of days there. I’ll let you know if I see Elvis.
