We are homeward bound and should be back in Spencerport late this afternoon. This particular adventure has come to an end.
Before we left Georgia, we had one last day to relax. We read, went out for dinner, and I went geocaching. The little county park we were at had a great collection of caches. I ventured out a couple of times and found seven.
Now that we have solar panels, we decided to try a new approach to our quick, one night stops. There is a program called Harvest Hosts that an RVer can join for a small fee. They have a list of wineries, distilleries, farms and museums that will let you spend a night for free on their property. In return, they ask that you perhaps buy some of their products. Count us in! I put our route into the Harvest Hosts website and easily found a couple of places along the route home.
We spent the first night in Loudon, Tennessee at the Tennessee Valley Winery. We had an interesting discussion with the owner, a fellow from South Africa about growing grapes in Tennessee. And yes, we did buy some wine.
Delighted with our first Harvest Hosts experience, we continued heading northward the next day. Last night, we ended up at The Valley Vineyards in Morrow, Ohio. The view wasn’t quite as good, but the stay was still excellent.
We chatted with Joe, the grandson of the founder of the winery, while we tasted some wines. He must have liked us, because he didn’t charge us for the tasting! This place had some excellent wines. They also had a small selection of evening food choices, so we opted to get a pizza.
The winery also brews beer, so Jim tried a flight.
I sipped a glass of Hillside Red while waiting for our pizza.
As we were enjoying ourselves, Joe remembered that he forgot to get our pizza for us! All of a sudden he appears with his apologies and two free glasses of their EXCELLENT $35 per bottle Cabernet Sauvignon. Wow! Joe remarked, “You don’t have to go far to get home.” Thank goodness!
Well fed, we headed back to the RV for the evening and to watch the line of thunderstorms that were making their way across the midwest. Between the apps on the phone, the National Weather Service radar page, and our Weather Radio, we were on top of it. We had a few thunderstorms roll through, but that was it.
Now our Spring 2016 adventure ends. It’s been a wonderful 9 weeks and 5120 RV miles this Spring (that doesn’t count Jeep miles). But it’s time to get home. Our house is sold, we need to oversee the remaining construction on the new house. We need to start packing. There is also Janelle’s graduation coming up. I have a feeling the Blue Flame will be sitting idle until August when we have to move Janelle to Texas for graduate school. But who knows, maybe we can sneak out for few days!
Thanks for sharing in our adventure!
