Snow to Surf

Yes, we are off on another adventure.

This was early Thursday morning. The Jeep was loaded with supplies and we headed out to retrieve the Blue Flame from storage in Springfield, Ohio.

This was Friday morning. It was just too darn cold to take any pictures pulling Blue out of storage. The best I could do was this snapshot of us pulling out of the storage facility with the temperature at 9 above. Brrrr.  At least we didn’t have to content with mounds of snow.

The thing about RVs and cold weather is that you have to protect your water, gray and black tanks. You don’t want water to freeze in your water lines. And you definitely don’t want a frozen pile of poo in your black tank. So we were on a mission to drive, drive, drive, to get far enough south to fill our water tanks (and take a well-earned hot shower!).

And this is where we ended up Friday night- day 2, at a non-too-picturesque RV park in Athens, Alabama. It was perfect, believe it or not. It was right off the highway, had 50 amp electric (to run the space heaters to keep us warm) and had running water!!!! We proceeded to fill our water tanks. Alleluia for a hot shower!  It was only 28 degrees the next morning.

Now we are up to Saturday morning (day 3 of this latest adventure). Let’s drive some more and find some warm weather.  Drive Drive Drive.  This is where we ended up at 3:00 p.m.

Sweet! We scored a lagoon side campsite in a state park in Panama City Beach, Florida! Three long days of driving paid off.

This is what three days of driving from the north will do to your tow vehicle. The Jeep was crusted in road salt.  So was the Blue Flame for that matter.  We need to find a truck wash!

By 6:30 p.m. that night, we were having dinner with a bunch of like-minded RVers. Those of you from the RVing world will recognize the couple in the front right…Chris and Cherie from Technomadia. They are the EXPERTS on how to have internet connectivity while on the road. We realized they were in the area, reached out to them, and got an invite to join them and their friends for pizza. It’s because of Chris and Cherie that I can even write this blog!  They are truly rock stars in the RVing world. They also own a boat and will be cruising the Erie Canal someday.  If they get near us in New York, we are rolling out the red carpet for them.

Another happy coincidence happened today. Meet Bill and Willie from Brighton, Michigan. We met them through our friends Leola and Doug. I texted Leola back in Michigan who talked to Willie and VIOLA! They were only 5 minutes away from our state park. So we got together with them this afternoon.

We are now winding down into Super Bowl Sunday evening. Jim is cooking a steak on the grill. I hear the water lapping at the shore outside my window.

My view!

Life is good.

Panama City Beach in the state park – white sand for miles.

It was a red flag day…swim at your own risk. The only people in the water were surfers wearing their wetsuits.

It was three long days of driving, but we made it to warm weather.  Tomorrow we head out to try and check another item off our bucket list. I hope it works out. Stay tuned!
