Three weeks in Tucson

We just spent three weeks in Tucson. Well, not just Tucson. Three weeks in Tucson, Green Valley, Amado and Willcox. Life on the road is not all sightseeing sometimes. Read on…..

My Dad lives in Green Valley and needed cataract surgery and carpal tunnel surgery. Since we were in the Southwest anyway, I volunteered to be his nurse. As a result, this blog post is going to be lacking in pictures (for which you should all say “Thank goodness!”).

Say “Cheese!” During my stay (and after cataract surgery), Dad and I went to his Computer Club meeting and I won a smart phone tripod and remote as a door prize. This is Dad and I trying to figure out how it works!

So while I was with Dad, Jim was with the RV in multiple places. He spent the first week parked in Amado, about 10 miles south of my Dad’s house and coming up to Green Valley to join us during the day.

The second week there was an Escapee’s RV Rally in Tucson (called an Escapade). So Jim attended the rally. Our friends Pal and Kay along with Dan and Amy (yup, the same friends that keep popping up in the blogs posts this year) were also there. Plus there were many others that we met at Quartzsite and the Winter Blast. Jim had no lack of company.

Opening ceremonies of the Escapade RV Rally. Yup, there were definitely a few people there!

While at the Escapade, we learned that the Willcox, Arizona Elks Lodge had a streamlined initiation process for Escapees. Many Elks Lodges have very reasonably priced camping spots, so we decided to join! Jim, along with 74 other Escapees hightailed it to Willcox (50 miles east of Tucson) and became members.

Finally, Jim ended up back in Amado/Green Valley while we waited for Dad to recover from the carpal tunnel surgery.

While Jim was all over southern Arizona, I was busy with Dad. Both surgeries were a total success. Yippee!!! During some downtime, I got some sewing and pool time in

This is the charity quilt that Amy, Kay and I started work on back in late January at Quartzsite. It’s done! Kay will use it to raise funds to fight childhood cancer.
I made this quilt top over Christmas and tossed it in the RV when we hit the road. While at Dad’s, I got it out and finished quilting through all the layers. The center is made from leftover batik jelly roll strips (for you quilters out there).
And then there was this project. For some reason, I ended up with Paul’s ratty, holey Hooters t-shirt that he got during a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I don’t even recall why! But I threatened to make something out of it. A few days later Kay said she needed a covering for her new neck pillow. Ah ha!!! A project was born. I repurposed the t-shirt and covered the neck pillow. I chuckle every time I look at it
The weather FINALLY got nice enough to get in some pool time. This is my favorite hot tub in all of Green Valley (and there are many!)
Walking back from the pool one day, I had a coyote cross my path. Better a coyote than a javelina!

So, that’s the last three weeks. Like I said, not a whole lot of pictures and excitement. We departed Dad’s on Sunday and are now back in Texas. We’ve got a few stops to see family and friends and will eventually end up back in Galveston to spend some time with Janelle. After that visit, we will start wandering towards Oregon and Callie. We have a much anticipated graduation to attend there in June!

Coyote on pool path: now that is close and what a pretty path. Quilts beautiful! I looked up Buckhorn Lake Resort and what a dream and so cheap but I imagine soon you will miss your BLM solitude. Wondering where you are today.
