Our trip through the Colorado Rockies

After leaving Moab, we headed for Grand Junction, Colorado.  This deserves a mention only because on the way there, we got a stone chip in the windshield.  *(#*%)($%  The next morning, we called a mobile window repair place.  They were wonderful, speedily coming out to the campground and repairing the chip!  I tried taking an after picture, but the guy did such a great job, it’s hard to pick out the chip from all the bug splatters!

From there we proceeded into the Rockies of Colorado.  I-70 is a very scenic road.  The road winds its way along the Colorado River.  The westbound lane is raised higher than the eastbound lane.  And they are cantilevered to use a little space as possible.  How would you have liked to be the engineer to design this road!

It just so happens, I have a cousin that lives in the Vail area.  So a quick phone call to my Aunt and I had Timothy’s phone number.  “Hey Tim, want to do lunch?” We decided we hadn’t see each other since his sister’s wedding 20 years or so before.  Wow!  No problem….we picked up where we left off.  After having lunch, Tim gave us a quickie tour of Beaver Creek, a very ritzy area.  The tour included the houses of Tom Hanks, Gerald R. Ford and some Sheik.  Needless to say, we won’t be buying any real estate in the area.

After leaving Tim, we continued to climb higher and higher, maxing out at around 11,000 feet.  If we were in an airplane at this altitude, we would have a pressurized cabin!  We crossed the Continental Divide at the mile long Eisenhower Tunnel.  From there it was all downhill….literally.

We are pushing East.  We have a date next weekend in Chicago with our kids!
