Unexpected detour

It’s been a while since I posted. Where do I start? We had a nice time in Albuquerque visiting family. Dad drove over from Green Valley, Arizona to join us and my brother’s family for a nice Easter holiday. And I am horrible at taking pictures of family. The few that I did take are so silly, I refuse to post them!

Rain coming into Albuquerque

We did take advantage of the time to use the garage at my brother’s place of business to fix a broken airline on our RV to Jeep braking system (not shown).

This picture is for Dave P. Remember how our tail light connection between the RV and the Jeep quit working? This is why…the connector on the bumper of the Jeep was NOT assembled well. The copper wires were not tinned and were exposed outside of the connector. Jim cleaned them up, tinned the copper, and our tail lights work again when towing!

Winslow, Arizona

After our family time, Jim and I headed to Winslow, Arizona. Yes, let’s all start singing the Eagles song. We had been here before and really like Homolovi State Park.

I decided I wanted an outside office for a day. This is it. I got caught up on all sorts of tasks that don’t stop just because you are on the road.
We had lunch at the same Mexican restaurant at the Winslow airport we found last time we visited the area. The entertainment was watching six Apache helicopters take off for a base in California. We know this because the pilots were just leaving the restaurant when we showed up!
And, of course, we did the obligatory pose..”Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona.”

Unexpected Detour

Then we got a call. My Dad was in a Tucson Emergency Room with a slow heartrate (he’s fine now by the way). My Albuquerque brother was in Florida on business and not readily available. After a quick chat with the ER doctor, I was in the Jeep for the five hour drive back to Tucson and Green Valley. I left Jim in the middle of nowhere with the RV and no car. Fortunately, he did have groceries because we had just stocked up.

As I said, Dad is fine now and is the proud owner of a pacemaker. We initially weren’t sure of Dad’s recovery time, but a few days later Jim followed me southward first to the Phoenix area and then to our usual RV park near my Dad. And that is why you haven’t heard much from us the past couple of weeks. There wasn’t any sightseeing going on.

This morning, almost two weeks later, we left Dad recovered and drove back to the Phoenix area. We’ll stay in here for a few days, hoping to get our aging decals on the hood of the RV replaced. Then it’s northward to Portland, Oregon.

Speaking of Portland, Callie graduates June 3 with her PhD in Neuroscience. She has accepted a post-doc position at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Yup, she’s coming home!!!!

I’ll leave you with some pictures I took along a wash trail near my Dad’s house a few days ago. Being in Arizona into May means you get to see the cactus bloom.

Trail along a wash. This would be nice to have right outside your back door.

The Prickly Pear Cactus were just starting to bloom.

Thanks for the update and new pictures. Really nice one of you on “the corner.” Nice that Jim is handy and can make repairs!!! Those “bloomin’ cacti are so pretty. Hope all goes well with Callie’s graduation.
