How is James (Jim)?

Jim wrote the following to answer the question “How is James (Jim)?”

The short answer is, no one knows, and we won’t know for at least six months.

I am recovering (slowly) from the bilateral knee revisions and follow on leg swelling that kept me bed ridden for weeks.  I am finally off all the narcotics, etc. that had my system totally screwed up and am mentally coming back to normal.  That’s good, it is the expected progress.  I am doing daily Physical Therapy and trying to regain some of my stamina after the lengthy period of mandatory bed restrictions.

At this point I am off the IV antibiotic and beginning a six month course of heavy doses of an oral antibiotic.  I will have continual blood monitoring to track the infection markers.  Currently they are all heading in the right direction.  Hopefully this continues.  After the six months of antibiotic treatment they will continue to monitor the blood infection markers.

If the infection markers do not increase after the antibiotic ends, then, fingers crossed, all is good and I can get back to life.  If they increase it means the treatment was not successful in eradicating the infection.  It is not entirely sure what happens then, but the most probably course of action is one or more operations on each knee and start the whole cycle over again.

So there will be no new news on “How is James(Jim)?” for at least six months.

Thank you all for all your emails, cards, texts, calls etc.  That is all the social interaction I presently get as I am house bound until my recovery is further along.  Hopefully it wouldn’t be too long until I am well enough to at least get out and about near home.  At this time all future plans are wishful thinking.

Thanks again, and think of me in six to eight months.  All I can do at this point is hope for the best.

Glad that ” things” are moving in a positive direction. Just sorry that they are taking so long!!!! For sure, I will have to check in well before 6 months 🙂

We keep all fingers crossed that you get rid of your infection. I can imagine how you feel not to be on the road with your blue flame …
The very best wishes from Stuttgart.
