We spent a very nice couple of days in Boise, Idaho doing some “Urban Camping”. This is our campsite. What do you think? It came with electric, water and free WiFi.
Yes, we were in a barricaded side road in Boise. We were in Boise to visit Jim’s nephews Jason and Brian. Jason is the son of Jim’s sister and grew up in Minnesota. Brian is the son of Jim’s brother and grew up in Wisconsin. So how did two midwesterners end up in out in the West? They followed their dreams. Jason was there first, and a few years back convinced Brian to give it a try. We’ll just call Boise “Goekeville West”.
So why are we parked on this alley of sorts? The house on the right belongs to Jason and his wife Andrea. We had all the comforts of home, all the conveniences, and we got to meet this little guy, Avery.
Avery is 19 months old and is the son of Jason and Andrea (as you probably guessed). We hadn’t met the little guy before this visit. Just call us Great Aunt and Great Uncle (Avery is the first Great-Nephew for us!).
We had a wonderful time getting together and catching up. Below are most of us. Jason’s wife Andrea had to work that night we took everyone out to dinner. Left to right we have: Kera (Brain’s girlfriend, Brian, Jason with Avery in front, and me (Corinne).
We also caught up on a few things. We had been having problems with our external WiFi antenna. The company we bought it from is based in the Boise area. This is Kelly, the owner of WiFi Ranger doing debug on top of Blue. The company was wonderful…they fixed our issue and bought us lunch to boot!
A few days before, our microwave failed. PANIC! So we headed out to an appliance store to buy a new one. It turned out they were having a tent sale. We didn’t buy anything, bet we did get free hotdogs for lunch! And we found a new microwave at Lowe’s that slipped right into the opening of Blue perfectly.
We were also introduced to these nasty little things. They are called Goat Heads. They grow all over the place and are easily tracked into your home or RV. The dry brown ones on the right have sharp horns on them. Andrea told us Goat Heads are known to puncture bicycle tires. Yikes! Our RV vacuum got a workout while in Boise.
Boise is a great city. It has mountains, low humidity, a terrific Green Belt running for miles through the city, a mile winter, low crime, etc. etc. I can see why Jason and Andrea moved there and why Brian followed. So, not many pictures at this stop on our adventure. We were too busy enjoying family time. But wait until you see the next bunch of pictures in the next blog post. It will more than make up for it!
We learned about these nasty little spurs our last trip west. We were told they were sand spurs but whatever the name you think they are bad in your shoes, they really cause problems for our four footed friends.
Deuce ran into them twice last week during our adventure.
I heard that the goat heads/sand spurs are tough on dog’s feet. I was still finding them in the motor home two weeks after we left! Nasty is right.
