Time in Kansas

After leaving the wonders of the west, we are winding our way across Kansas.  Who knew Kansas was this long from West to East.  Or maybe it seems long because we are taking our time.

Our first stop was at a Prairie Dog State Park.  We found this campground via one of our many apps on our tablet and smart phone.  What a wonderful find!  Located at the edge of a reservoir, this time of the year, the campground is almost empty.  And yes, there are indeed prairie dogs!  This stop was worthy of a couple of nights.

Time to head east again.  We discovered we weren’t too far from the Geographical Center of the Contiguous 48 States.  Well, we just had to stop!  There were a number of markers and a small chapel available for weddings!

We are now in Marysville, Kansas.  Its main attraction is that you can camp for FREE in their city park WITH 50 amp electric hookup. You can’t beat that.  So we have parked here for a few days.  Marysville’s claim to fame is 1) being the first stop on the Pony Express and 2)  having black squirrels.

We’ll be moving on from here shortly.  But we did find time to jump in the Jeep this morning, head out to the countryside, find a dark side road (with the aid of the GPS) and get a look at the lunar eclipse.  My camera battery died, so this is the best I could do with my phone.  It’s the moon over the town of Marysville.  We caught it (between clouds) in the middle of the full eclipse.  It does look like a Blood Moon!
