When we left the Columbia River Bar, we were headed to Portland to visit Callie. But Cannon Beach was an easy stop on the way to Portland.
Cannon Beach
Jim had never been to Cannon Beach. This was my third visit. Exploring the tide pools around Haystack Rock is great fun. Jim scouted out the parking lots in the area (via Bing maps and their satellite view option) and actually found one where we could park the Blue Flame near the beach! It was a quick two hour stop, but Jim got to see what Cannon Beach was all about.

Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach. Have you seen the movie Goonies? Apparently Haystack Rock is featured in the movie. No, I haven’t seen it either.
Portland
That was fun, but Portland and Callie awaited us. We didn’t do a lot of touristy things while in Portland. We did family things! Callie got lots of home cooked meals. Her car got a once over from the Dad. We repaired a few things around her apartment. We got to see her current research (not that we understood any of it). You know, normal everyday stuff!

Callie asked for some new flannel PJ pants since the last pairs I made were falling apart. So we visited Joann Fabrics for supplies, our friend Mary Ellen stuck my PJ pants pattern in with our mail being sent to Callie’s, and I pulled out the sewing machine. Viola! Three pairs of flannel PJ pants.

Portland’s unofficial slogan is “Keep Portland Weird.” We wandered downtown one weekend and found evidence of that slogan. Poet for hire?!? Nothing high tech here, that’s a manual typewriter!
After a lovely week of being a family, it was time for us to move on. We had heard great things about Bend, Oregon. That’s for next time.
Oh my goodness — every once in awhile, you visit a place that we have visited. My aunt still lives in Beaverton and on one of trips “west” with Mike and Karen we stopped to see them. They were vacationing at Canon Beach.and we stayed one night.
Looks like you had a good visit with Callie and I’m sure that she was happy to see you — for many reasons!
Yup, every so often we have been to the same place (other than Spencerport). And yes, it was great to visit with Callie! In a few months she’ll be home for Christmas! 🙂
Nice pix at the beach- the starfish and jelly arr very cool. Looked like good size on both of them.
Have you watched any of the Portlandia series? Yes, it’s weird.
Did you purchase a salsa kit?
Glad to see the pj pants did get made before you left callie’s. Cute whales.
Catch you later..,
You would enjoy Cannon Beach! I tried to watch Portlandia…VERY weird. I left the salsa kit where it was. And Callie is VERY happy with the new PJ pants. Thanks for hunting down my pattern!
